How to convert a 2D drawing into a 3D STEP part

Upload the part drawing as PDF, DXF or image. The contour, diameters, pockets and holes are read; you check the reading on the drawing itself and GetGCode builds the part with a real CAD engine. Adjust the dimensions if needed and download the STEP file to open it in Fusion, SolidWorks, Mastercam or any CAD/CAM, or the STL to 3D print it.

1

Upload the drawing as PDF, DXF or image

DXF files are read exactly and without AI: the lines and arcs of the drawing go straight into the part. With a PDF or a photo, computer vision interprets dimensions, diameters, radii and chamfers, and flags any doubtful dimension instead of making it up.

2

Check the reading on the drawing

Before anything is built you see the reconstructed contour on top of the drawing. Fix it by hand or tell the AI what is wrong; only what you confirm goes into the 3D part.

3

3D part with editable dimensions, as STEP or STL

The part is generated as an exact solid: revolved for turned parts and extruded, with pockets and holes, for 2.5D milled parts. Change a diameter, a length or the thickness and it rebuilds instantly before you download it.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ: converting a drawing to STEP

Can you convert a PDF to STEP?

A file converter can't: a PDF is a flat drawing and, at best, it turns it into 2D lines. To get a STEP file with volume you have to interpret the views and dimensions and build the solid. That's what this tool does: it reads the drawing, lets you review it and generates the real 3D part.

What about DXF to STEP?

Yes, and it's the most accurate route. A DXF carries the exact geometry of the drawing, so no AI is needed to read it: the contour is revolved (turning) or extruded to its thickness (milling) and downloaded as STEP.

Which parts can it convert to 3D?

Turned parts (shafts, bushings and stepped parts with chamfers, radii, grooves, bores and axial holes) and 2.5D milled parts (plates and flanges with contour, pockets, holes and threads). Freeform surfaces and side-face operations are not supported yet.

How accurate is the 3D part?

The solid is built with the exact dimensions of the reading you confirm. With DXF it is the drawing's geometry; with PDF or image it depends on the drawing quality, which is why it always goes through your review and you can correct every dimension before downloading.

Can the STEP file be edited in SolidWorks or Fusion?

It opens as an exact solid that you can modify with direct editing, take into your CAM or use in an assembly. It does not include the CAD feature history: dimensions are adjusted here, before downloading, and the part rebuilds instantly.

How is it different from converting a house floor plan to 3D?

Architectural 2D-to-3D tools turn floor plans into visual mock-ups. This one is built for machined parts: it works in millimetres, keeps diameters, pockets and holes, and delivers a STEP file ready for CAD/CAM.

Is it free? What happens to my drawings?

AI reading has a real cost, so it is part of the Pro tier. DXF files are read in your browser; PDFs and images are sent only to be read and are never published or used to train models.
