How to create a control pattern from a mechanical plane?

Balloons linked to the drawing

What is a control pattern in machining?

It's the document that defines which dimensions, tolerances and geometric characteristics must be verified, with which instrument, at what frequency and with what acceptance criterion. On the shop floor it usually accompanies the drawing for first articles, repeat runs or critical parts.

Can I use this tool with scanned PDF drawings?

Yes, as long as the dimensions and GD&T symbols are legible. Sharp vector PDF drawings or well-lit images give the best results. If the AI can't read a dimension confidently, it doesn't omit it: it still includes it flagged as "AI unsure" at the end of the table so you can verify it against the original drawing.

How does AI choose the measuring instrument?

It suggests the most common instrument based on the tolerance and dimension type: calipers for larger clearances, micrometer or dial indicator for tight tolerances, Go/No-Go plug gauge for threads, CMM for complex GD&T. You can edit it before exporting, or pick it from a searchable catalog of more than 40 instruments.

What does Critical, Major or Informational criticality mean?

There is no fixed threshold table: the AI decides as a quality engineer would, based on the dimension's function, its tolerance and the context you provide (material, process, production type). As guidance: Critical usually means 100% inspection, Major a sampling plan and Informative a reference that doesn't directly condition part acceptance. You can always change the criticality of any row by hand.

What are the process, material and production type fields for?

They're optional and requested just before generating the plan. They help the AI adjust instrument, criticality and frequency: for example, a hard or difficult-to-machine material can justify more rigor, and a prototype or first article usually means more inspection than an already validated series.

Is the exported PDF useful for audits or clients?

The export is a professional starting point with balloon, nominal, tolerance, instrument and frequency (and blank columns if the operator will note measurements by hand). Before releasing production or sending it to the customer you must validate the document with quality, the controlled drawing and the shop's internal procedure.
