Preset H7/n6

Centring with a small interference; may need a light press.

Quick reading

How to interpret it

Hole H7 and shaft n6. If the minimum clearance is negative there can be interference. If both clearances are positive there is always play.

There may be a small percentage of error against the official standard, since it isn't legal to reproduce the full ISO tables verbatim. Always validate with official ISO 286 and the controlled drawing before making critical parts.

H7/n6 fit: limits by diameter (ISO 286)

Firm transition. Centring with a small interference; may need a light press.

Example at Ø25 mm: hole H7 from 0 to +21 µm and shaft n6 from +15 to +28 µm, which gives anything from 28 µm of interference to 6 µm of clearance.

How it is made: the H7 hole (IT7) by reaming, fine boring or internal grinding; the n6 shaft (IT6) by grinding or fine turning on a machine in good condition. Check both with a plug gauge and a micrometer, not with a caliper.

How it is assembled: by hand or with light taps of a soft-faced mallet; depending on the actual sizes it may be loose or slightly tight.

Deviations in µm. Positive clearance: loose fit; negative: interference.

Mathematical formula of the ISO tolerance system

First the IT tolerance is obtained and then it is positioned according to the letter.

Tramo nominal: > 30 a 50 mm

1. Anchura IT

i = 0,45 · ∛D + 0,001 · D

`D` is the mean diameter of the nominal range. The multiplier is then applied: IT6 = 10i, IT7 = 16i, IT8 = 25i, IT9 = 40i.

2. Position of the letter

H7, K11, g6, p6...

The letter places the area with respect to the nominal. Uppercase for hole (`ES/EI`) and lowercase for axis (`es/ei`).

3. Resultado de montaje

holgura = agujero - eje

If the minimum clearance is positive, it is a clearance fit. If the maximum is negative, it is an interference fit. If it crosses zero, it is a transition fit.

Hole

min. = nominal + EImax. = nominal + ES

Shaft

min. = nominal + eimax. = nominal + es

Clearance

min. = min. hole - max. shaftmax. = max. hole - min. shaft

The IT formula is public and indicative; the fundamental deviations per letter are computed by the tool's engine. For critical production, always validate against official ISO 286 and the controlled drawing.
