01Identify pitch before machining
For a single-start thread, 1.5 mm pitch means 1.5 mm axial travel per revolution. Do not infer pitch from the screw’s wrench size or the approximate diameter of a damaged part.
02Using an 8.5 mm cutting-tap drill
The consulted table recommends 8.5 mm for cut-tapping M10 × 1.5. This leaves material for the tap to remove. Form tapping uses a different hole preparation that must be checked against the selected tool’s data.
03Depth and finish
In a blind hole, calculate useful threaded length separately from drilled depth. Entry burrs or trapped chips can prevent a thread passing inspection even with the correct drill. Clean the part and inspect the finished fit.
Similar threads: check diameter and pitch
A fine-pitch M10 keeps the nominal diameter but changes the pitch, drill and fit. Check the full drawing designation.
| Thread | Ø mm | Pitch |
|---|---|---|
| M10 × 1.5 | 10 | 1.5 mm |
| M10 × 1.25 | 10 | 1.25 mm |
Frequently asked questions · M10 × 1.5
Which drill is used for M10 × 1.5?
The consulted cutting-tap reference specifies 8.5 mm. Form tapping requires a separately checked hole size.
What is the pitch of M10 × 1.5?
Pitch is 1.5 mm. For a single-start thread this is also the axial travel per revolution.
Does the drill size determine finished tolerance?
No. The drill prepares the hole; the tool, process and specified tolerance class determine the fit to be inspected.
